Fuerteventura

Once you were lush green, they say

Then slowly

Your beautiful trees were taken away

And the hungry goats fed themselves with what was left of you

Now, while your dry arid body is burning in the sun

Your fertile volcanic soil seems to be of little use

You’re surrounded by the sea, yet so thirsty

And you’re begging for some water and coolness in order to survive

Will they give back to you what was taken one day?

Will they restore

Your beauty

Your richness

Your health?

O Fuerteventura!

Will you be covered by plants and trees one day?

Will your thirst be quenched some day?

Will you be able to catch the wind

one day soon?
