Futile to dream

These days

It seems so futile to dream

It seems so futile to dream

even of small things

of simple things

It seems so futile to dream

f waking up in a summerhouse

next to the Bosphorus

of opening the balcony doors

and letting a gentle breeze come in

of having breakfast on the balcony

and allowing the sun to greet you with its warmth

It seems so futile to dream of all of this

when one does not even feel safe anymore in Istanbul, Paris or London

These days

it seems so futile to dream

of building a treehouse for children

of seeing them happy

 laughing and playing

to dream of giving them a brighter future

a future with hope and peace

It seems so futile to dream these days

when half of the world is being destroyed because of power and greed

and the other half in the name of religion

It all seems so futile

when the ignorance of humanity

has coloured our present and future so dark

that we are having nightmares

day in, day out, all day long

with our eyes wide open

It seems so futile to dream

it seems so futile to dream sometimes
